Gardaí in Louth investigating if drug was mixed with a synthetic substance.
Two young women have been hospitalised in Co Louth after consuming what gardaí believe to be contaminated cannabis.
The women, who are in their 20s, are in a life threatening condition and are being treated in the intensive care unit of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Both are believed to have taken cannabis in recent days but the side effects they have suffered are not usually caused by the drug on its own. It is suspected that the cannabis may have been mixed with a synthetic drug.
The first woman took ill on Monday night of this week and the second became seriously ill in the early hours of yesterday morning.
