A drink or two each day can help men who have survived a heart attack lower their risk of death, according to a new study.
These moderate drinkers were found to reduce the danger of dying from heart disease or any other cause than those who avoided alcohol altogether, results of research involving almost 2000 men in the USA confirmed.
Investigators found that, having survived a first heart attack, men who drank about two alcoholic beverages a day over a long period of time had a 14% lower risk of death from any cause and a 42% lower risk of death from heart disease than non-drinkers.
The researchers tracked their progress for up to 20 years from the time of the heart attack.
