Needle exchange programme set up in Dundalk

A needle exchange programme for drug users is now available in Dundalk.

The 'harm limitation' programme is being provided by the Anna Liffey Drug Project and will operate every Monday afternoon.

The setting up of the programme has been welcomed by Mark Dearey chairperson of the Dundalk Drugs Advisory Group.

He explained that the Anna Liffey Drug Project, formed in Dublin in response to the first epidemic of heroin use in the city in the early 1980s, now sees itself as a national organisation.
