A group of Nurses working in addictions in Ireland have been in contact informally and have expressed an interest in setting up a professional focus / networking group.
The Psychiatric Nurses Association has agreed to support this where possible and the Nurse taking the lead on this is Peter Kelly who has some experience of developing professional networks in the UK. The networking group is open to all Nurses currently working in addictions or Nurses who have an interest in this area. It is hoped that establishing this network will compliment ongoing multidisciplinary workforce development in Ireland but will also develop links with existing international addiction Nursing organisations and networks such as Intsa in the U.S., ANSA in the U.K. and DANA in Australasia.
It is envisaged that the effective development of the Nursing workforce will compliment the current requirements for clinically robust and cost effective services in Ireland.
In order to develop terms of reference for this group and establish a future direction a preliminary meeting will take place in Dublin on July 16th.
