On average, one person dies from an overdose every day in Ireland.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on August 31st each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related death. 

International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that the tragedy of overdose death is preventable.

Promotion in Ireland

To promote International Overdose Awareness Day in Ireland, the Ana Liffey Drug Project will provide activities throughout the week to highlight to our service users risks and how to stay safe. These include:

• Distribution of 2,000 overdose cards and Silver Ribbon Badges – the badge is an international symbol of awareness of overdose and its effects.
• Overdose Workshops
• One-to-One Interventions
• Promotion of overdose information through drugs.ie and social media
• Engage with the media to raise awareness of overdose and it’s effects
• Overdose Cards and Silver Ribbon Badges
