Fianna Fáil has called for a Minister of Drugs to be appointed to tackle the drugs crisis.
The party today launched its policy proposals on drugs, including a new National Substance Misuse Strategy which includes alcohol and cannabis.
Justice spokesman Niall Collins claimed the issue has slipped off the Government’s agenda.
“A complete lack of political leadership has created a crisis in services on the ground and a breakdown of communication between the relevant bodies at community level,” he said.
Mr Collins said there is a desperate need for politicians to take a stand on this issue.
Senator Darragh O’Brien said there is a view emerging from abroad and from some politicians that cannabis is an acceptable drug.
