Conference highlights the dangers of drinking during pregnancy

Over 40 foster carers and teachers attended the Irish Foster Care Association (IFCA) conference on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), which was held on Saturday last.

The day-long conference was organised by the Waterford branch of the IFCA and featured experts in the field including Dr.Kieran O’Malley, a child and adolescent psychiatrist from the Charlemont Clinic Dublin, Founder of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Ireland, Michelle Savage, and Principal at Our Lady of Mercy Senior School Maria Doyle.

According to Michelle Savage fetal alcohol syndrome covers growth, mental, and physical problems that may occur in a baby when a mother drinks alcohol during pregnancy.
