The latest party drug has arrived, and you’ve probably already tried it but not in this form.
Club-goers eager for a new high have taken to snorting powdered cacao, the raw form of chocolate.
A monthly alcohol-free dance party in Berlin, called Lucid, has introduced cacao drinks and powder, while early morning breakfast raves across Europe also offer cacao pills to guests.
The Belgian chocolatier Dominique Persoone has even invented a special €45 snorting device called the Chocolate Shooter, which allows people to ingest a mixture of chocolate and spices in powdered form, similar to cocaine.
Mr Persoone said he invented the device for a birthday party for Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones.
He has experimented with a number of different formulas, and after a failed attempt to use chili pepper – which he said was “not a good idea” – he now typically blends the powder with ginger, raspberry and mint for his customers.
Ruby May, who organises the parties at Lucid, does not allow alcohol at her events, instead preferring the use of cacao to “amplify” the experience.
