Annual Service of Commemoration and Hope, 1st February, Dublin 1

Annual Service of Commemoration and Hope: Families are encouraged to remember and commemorate their loved ones with dignity.

The 18th Annual Service will remember those who have died from substance misuse and related causes and will be held in Dublin on the 1st of February.

On Wednesday 1st February 2017 the National Family Support Network (NFSN), the representative organisation of addiction specific family support groups and services throughout the island of Ireland, will host its 18th Annual Service of Commemoration and Hope in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Sean McDermott Street, Dublin 1 at 7.30pm. The service is held annually to remember those who have died from substance misuse and related causes and to offer hope to families of those still involved in addiction or in recovery.

This spiritual multi-denominational service has an attendance of approximately 800 people and this year the NFSN are delighted to confirm that attendees will include Minister Catherine Byrne, Archbishop Diarmaid Martin, Bishop Eamon Walsh, Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan and the Dublin Community Gospel Choir will be performing.

Most importantly family members who have lost loved ones through addiction and those still living with a relative’s addiction will also be in attendance. NFSN CEO Sadie Grace says the service is an important opportunity for families to celebrate the lives of those who they have lost;

“Many of the family members who use Family Support services believe they cannot mourn the loss of their loved one as they may feel a sense of shame by the manner in which their family member passed away or their grief may not be acknowledged by others. We want to encourage all family members who have lost a loved one to addiction to come to the Annual Service and to openly remember and commemorate the life of their family member with dignity.”
