9 things you need to know about supervised drug injecting facilities

The goal of the project is to minimise the harm associated with drug use, and similar clinics overseas have proven successful.

But in recent weeks, councillors and ministers have raised concerns over how the facilities will be run and policed and the impact they will have on the surrounding area.

Minister of State Catherine Byrne has asked the HSE to establish a working group to gather data, consider possible options and to undertake consultation before any decision is made on the location of the pilot facility.
