2012 winners
Presenting the awards, Róisín Shortall, T.D., Minister of State with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy commented:
"Our unhealthy relationship with alcohol and drugs is costing us very dearly as a society. It is costing us nearly 4 billion a year. It is also costing us more dearly in personal terms, where lives are being destroyed through the misuse of substances. We know that a lot of family difficulties are caused, marriage breakdown, domestic abuse, sexual assault, abuse of various kinds. And it is now time that we faced up to this and that we take action, and I think there is a strong mood to take action in this area.
Today's ceremony is very much about identifying those problems and doing it through a number of different media. It is very welcome that the more modern media techniques are brought to bear in this competition, it is not just about the written word its about using various media that are available now."
